Elliot Page said he is “proud” of how The Umbrella Academy handled his character’s transition in the third season. The actor came out as trans and non-binary in December 2020 and has since used his platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.
It was initially reported that his character would not be rewritten as trans, though it was later confirmed that his real life transition would be reflected in Number Seven/Viktor Hargreeves. “When we first talked about it, [showrunner Steve Blackman] seemed really excited about incorporating it into the show,” Page explained during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on 21 June.
He added that trans author Thomas McBee “came on board and helped out and I feel proud of it and I’m excited for people to see it.” The upcoming third season of the show will see the cast return to the present day after spending most of the last instalment in the 1960s.
Netflix confirmed that the new episodes will see the adoptive family of superheroes team up with the Sparrow Academy, an alternate timeline superhero group. “Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives?
