HBO Max drops the first teaser trailer for its highly anticipated drama The Idol. Back in November, Variety reported that the popular streamer officially ordered The Weeknd-led series for a total of six episodes.
Alongside the Blinding Lights singer, who serves as co-writer and executive producer, Euphoria’s Sam Levinson also joined the series as its co-creator. “When the multi-talented Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson brought us ‘The Idol’, it was clear their subversive, revelatory take on the cult of the music industry was unlike anything HBO had ever done before,” said Executive Vice President of HBO Programming Francesca Orsi.
The show is set to follow a self-help guru (The Weeknd), who is also the leader of a cult, that ends up in a relationship with a rising pop star (Lily-Rose Depp).
On 17 July, months after its initial announcement, HBO Max delivered the first highly anticipated teaser of the new series. At the start of the trailer, a choreographer directs Depp’s character and her bevvy of dancers. “All right, music,” she shouts while clapping.
