Tatiana Maslany revealed that she was inspired by the late trans icon SOPHIE while filming She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. On 18 August, Disney+ finally released the first episode of Marvel’s highly anticipated She-Hulk series.
The show follows Jennifer Walters (Maslany), a single lawyer and the cousin of Bruce Banner/The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), as she navigates her 30s and newly acquired Hulk abilities.
Since the show dropped, MCU fans have taken to social media and praised Maslany’s portrayal of the green superhero. One fan wrote: “Only one episode out and Tatiana is already eating.” Another fan tweeted: “I love Jennifer already, Tatiana Maslany is absolutely incredible.” In a recent interview with Variety, the Orphan Black star revealed that she was inspired by SOPHIE when tackling her roles as Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk “Musically, SOPHIE just lives in this place that I always want to live in, but there’s a poppiness and feminity combined with these clashing industrial sounds,” she explained. “Her music video ‘Faceshopping’ was all about skin, commodification of body and being separated into different parts, and that all felt thematically and spiritually connected.” Back in January 2021, SOPHIE tragically passed away following an accidental fall from a three-story balcony in Athens, Greece.
According to her girlfriend, Evita Manji, she had climbed to take a picture of the full moon. Maslany’s interview comes a few weeks after she showcased her support for the trans community during a promotional video for the She-Hulk series.
