Emily Hilton has shared some advice on the matter…Emily, who specialises in working with people in their 20s and 30s as well as people in the LGBTQ+ community, says it’s important to plan what you want to say ahead of time. She explains: ‘You can really take your time with this if you’d like to, and speaking about it with others in your support network, writing thoughts out or even saying them out loud to yourself when you’re alone can be helpful ways to get more clarity on what your needs are.‘Also think about what might be the best environment for having this conversation.
For example, consider where you feel comfortable speaking openly, and where you will feel safe talking about what could be difficult stuff. ‘It can feel easier to talk about challenging things when we’re not directly facing someone – so perhaps consider having the conversation sitting next to someone on the sofa, or out on a walk, rather than over a dinner table.
Being face-to-face can feel quite confrontational at times.’To celebrate 50 years of Pride, Metro.co.uk has teamed up with Kyiv Pride to raise money for their important work in Ukraine.
Despite war raging around them, Kyiv Pride continue to help LGBTQ+ people, offering those in need shelter, food and psychological support. We will be splitting the cash with a grassroots charity closer to home.
