London landlords refuse rent discounts despite knowing businesses may go under

Landlords have been refusing to waive rent for bars, clubs and shops in the capital which have been forced to close due to the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

Businesses essentially paying for empty buildings for the foreseeable future are calling for write-offs to ensure their survival after the pandemic.

Jeremy Joseph, owner of the G-A-Y clubs in London’s West End and Manchester said enterprises like his are at risk of ‘going bankrupt’ unless landlords provide discounts.
