The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department has pushed back against claims that transgender YouTube star Nikita Dragun was housed in a men’s unit after being arrested at a Miami Beach, Fla., hotel.Authorities arrested Dragun, a beauty influencer with millions of social media followers, on Monday at the Goodtime Hotel for allegedly assaulting a police officer. She was placed in a men’s prison unit afterward, according to her publicist."The situation with Nikita, who is legally female, being placed in a men’s unit of a Florida jail is extremely disturbing and dangerous,” her publicist, Jack Ketsoyan of Full Scope Public Relations, said in a statement.

A new study by Andrés Finzi, professor at the Université de Montréal (UdeM) and researcher at the CHUM Research Center, examines the efficacy of non-neutralizing antibodies against the AIDS virus.Science Daily reported that the study, initially published in Cell Reports, shows that humanized mice needed the viral protein Vpu to allow infected cells to eliminate the antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC). The non-neutralizing antibodies use this mechanism to get rid of the cells infected by the virus.Even though millions of people living with HIV have non-neutralizing antibodies, the lack of vaccine against the virus sparked the idea for the study.

(CNN) -- Dave Chappelle's representative is pushing back on a report that claimed "Saturday Night Live" writers were staging a boycott ahead of his hosting the show this weekend.On Wednesday, The New York Post, citing an anonymous source, reported writers on the show were going to sit out on the episode."We've seen nothing to support media reports of a writer's boycott," Chappelle's rep told CNN in a statement. "In fact, the writers delivered over 40 sketches for Dave's consideration and collaboration.

(CNN) – Explorers trudged the Atlantic Ocean searching for World War II artifacts lost at sea, but they stumbled on something else – a 20-foot-long piece of debris from the Space Shuttle Challenger, which was destroyed shortly after takeoff in 1986.The History Channel and NASA revealed Thursday that the Challenger segment was discovered off Florida's east coast during the filming of a new series called The Bermuda Triangle: Into Cursed Waters. The series is set to premiere this month on the History Channel.The Challenger broke apart after its launch on January 28, 1986, killing all seven crew members aboard, including a teacher who was set to become the first civilian in space.

Meet Miuna, pretty little black domestic shorthair mix who is just over a year old and weighs just over 7 pounds. This dainty little lady with her big yellow eyes is a sweet little girl, but she is also very timid, so it may take a short time for her to warm up to new people. She would be happiest if she went to a home with another confident and friendly cat already on the grounds. Even then, she’ll need a small period of alone time to acclimate to the new environment. Playful small children would be very frightening for Miuna, so she would prefer to go to a home with teens and adults only. She is at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary to meet her.

Gordon Peterson, 71, passed away Monday, Oct. 31, 2022. Born in the Chicago area, he was instrumental in developing Local Area Networks while working for Datapoint Corporation in San Antonio in the 1970s and was very politically active in Dallas county and Texas in recent years.

Zimbabwe has hit and surpassed a global target for HIV testing and treatment.The country’s Ministry of Health and Child Care confirmed that 95 percent of the HIV-positive population in Zimbabwe has reached undetectable levels of the virus, reports New Ziana. That means these individuals cannot transmit the virus to others.This comes in line with UNAIDS’ 95-95-95 goal, which aims to end the HIV epidemic by 2030.

The expected red wave may have only hit certain parts of the U.S., but a rainbow wave seems to have swept across the country.At least 340 LGBTQ+ candidates won their elections in the 2022 midterms, according to the LGBTQ Victory Institute, an organization that supports queer candidates. The Whale, starring Brendan Fraser, is the latest film from director Darren Aronofsky, and A24 has released the official trailer. Fraser plays Charlie, a teacher weighed down figuratively and literally with 600 pounds of guilt.After leaving his family to be in a relationship with his now-deceased gay partner, Fraser’s character attempts to rebuild a relationship with his teenage daughter, played by Sadie Sink from Stranger Things. The story follows Charlie’s struggle with compulsive eating brought on by a grief-triggered deep depression.Hollywood artists constructed a bodysuit for the film that combined latex and physical attributes with digitally created and 3D-printed prosthetics.Fraser’s remarkable transformation and raw emotion throughout the film have earned the actor some Oscar buzz.The film debuted in September at the Venice Film Festival. Audiences reportedly gave the film a six-minute standing ovation, according to CNN.“Do you ever get the feeling people are incapable of not caring?” Fraser asks hauntingly in the trailer as he’s shown with an oxygen nasal cannula and beads of sweat dripping down his face. “People are amazing,” he says as the one-minute-long trailer concludes.In it, viewers only see Fraser briefly twice, but in those two brief moments, he conveys his character’s struggles.The trailer offers a brief glimpse of Sink’s distressed portrayal of Charlie’s 17-year-old daughter.

Nevada is poised to become the first state to broadly amend its constitution to include protections for historically marginalized people.The measure, Question 1, was supported by 57.5 percent of Nevada voters, while 42.5 percent opposed it at the time of publication, with 83 percent of the vote counted.A wide-ranging amendment to the Nevada state constitution that would include antidiscrimination protections covering gender identity and sexual orientation was on the ballot on Tuesday. Voters could adopt or reject the most comprehensive state version of the Equal Rights Amendment.In Nevada’s ERA, equal rights would be guaranteed for all, regardless of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or ancestry. Executive Director of Equality Nevada Chris Davin tells The Advocate that he’s pleased with the trajectory of the vote as final numbers start to come together.
