Imagine having to perform your coming-out song to Lorna Luft and Melba Moore In People, she talks about her goals in a way most LGBTQ people can definitely relate to: I just want to live my life.

I just want to be happy. And in a way, I want to weed out the people who aren't going to love me for who I am. For Serrano, coming to terms with who she is has been a struggle of the variety we older folks in the movement might've thought would be a thing of the past.

And yet, brought up in a conservative church, she still had the wherewithal to tell her mom she thought she could be gay at age 11.
