LGBTQ Victorians celebrated Australia's groundbreaking ban on conversion therapy February 4, calling the bill "gold-standard legislation" that other states should follow.
The bill will become law, local television news reported. Lawmakers in Victoria's upper house of the state's parliament overwhelmingly voted 29-9 to pass the Change or Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition bill.
Victoria Member of Parliament Andy Meddick, a proud father of two "perfect" transgender children, said, "they do not need fixing." Meddick, with the Animal Justice party, added, "Nor do any other children or adults who do not fit an often religiously-held belief that sexuality and gender are binary only."
