The event coincided with the one year anniversary of the Stonewall riots - a police raid on the Stonewall Inn gay bar - and would ultimately go on to spur a worldwide movement and an ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ equality.
Fifteen years after the New York parade, Manchester hosted it’s very first Pride event - with bars raising money for local organisations and donating soft furnishings to hospital wards where patients were being treated for HIV and AIDS.
