The writer of Superman: Son of Kal-El has shut down rumours that the popular comic has been cancelled. Back in 2021, DC Comics made headlines after Jon Kent – the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane – came out as bisexual in the groundbreaking series.
Written by Tom Taylor, the LGBTQ+ inclusive story follows Jon as he takes over the famous mantel while his father is on a mission in space.
The inclusion of a bisexual Man of Steel was met with immediate praise from comic book fans and critics. However, despite its continued success amongst readers, the comic has received consistent hate from anti-LGBTQ+ trolls and conservative news presenters like Sky News Australia’s Rowan Dean.
On 11 October, Dean claimed that DC Comics cancelled Superman: Son Of Kal-El after he accused the company of “going woke and broke.” “Yes, the creators of Superman, DC Comics, are cancelling their gay Superman solo run after abysmal sales,” he said during his newscast. “Are we really surprised about a climate alarmist, homosexual Superman who turns out to be Kryptonite to readers?” However, Dean and his claims were swiftly shut down by Taylor in an epic tweet. “Not cancelled.
