Singer Beverly Shaw, a nightclub pioneer, identified as a lesbian, owned the upscale lesbian space Club Laurel in the 1950s.
Club Laurel opened in 1957 and was one of the earliest lesbian nightclubs in the San Fernando Valley. It was located on Ventura Boulevard.
