On Saturday (4 April), Sir Keir Starmer was elected as the leader of the Labour Party with a large majority. Keir replaces Jeremy Corbyn following Labour’s performance in the 2019 General Election, their worst since 1935.
The Labour Party has traditionally been very supportive of LGBTQ rights, introducing civil partnerships and the Gender Recognition Act during its last term in government, as well as a majority of Labour MPs voting in favour of same-sex marriage.
