Schneider, the 40-time “Jeopardy” champion, was scheduled to be the grand marshal in Sunday’s Long Beach Pride Parade, but organizers said she had to cancel due to a family emergency. “Late last week I had a family emergency that forced me to cancel several upcoming events and appearances,” Schneider said in a statement released Friday night by Long Beach Pride. “Unfortunately, one of those events was the Long Beach Pride Parade. “While I’m very disappointed that I won’t be there to celebrate in person, please know I’ll be there in spirit, and it will be an amazing day regardless,” she said.
In the same statement, Long Beach Pride board president Elsa Martinez said, “We send our best wishes to Amy and her family at this trying time and hope that she will be able to join us in person at next year’s event. “We will miss Amy, but we promise that this year’s parade will be a highlight of Pride and one that will be remembered for many years to come,” Martinez said.
On her Twitter and Instagram pages, Schneider said she will be appearing tonight at a fundraiser in San Francisco. The Long Beach Pride Parade will step off at 10:30 a.m.
