Cat Burns has been named the recipient of this year’s GAY TIMES Honour for Rising Star in Music presented by Coca-Cola. Founder of gal-dem Liv Little announced the win in front of an audience full of LGBTQ+ community members and allies on 25 November at Magazine London in the heart of the capital.

Cat has had an undeniable impact on the music industry this year, dominating the charts with hit single Go as she championed a variety of marginalised communities in the process. “If you’re a Black woman, I want you to feel heard and seen,” she previously told GAY TIMES Magazine. “We are vulnerable people who are capable of having lots of emotions.

And, being a Black queer woman adds a layer to that.” GAY TIMES Honours sponsored by Meta Quest celebrates the individuals and organisations who have had a profound effect on the lives of LGBTQ+ people over the past 12 months.

Cat was among this year’s star-studded lineup of performers, which also included Tove Lo, Grag Queen, Kai-Isaiah Jamal and Keanan, as well as a DJ set from Princess Julia.
