Heartstopper, it turns out you aren’t the only one. Russell T Davies, who rebooted the Doctor Who television series in 2005 and ran it until 2010, was also blown away by Finney.“We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse,” the showrunner, who’ll return to Doctor Who in 2023, told the BBC.Finney is set to star in the role of Rose, a name very familiar to long-time Whovians. “Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder – how can there be another Rose?” Russell teased.Rose Tyler, a companion of the time-traveling Doctor, was originally played by Billie Piper in seasons one, two, four, and a handful of guest spots.

While it’s still unknown if Finney will play Rose Tyler, one thing that’s clear is Davies’ excitement over the casting. “You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set,” he said.

Finney was thrilled with her casting as well. “If ‘eight-year-old Yasmin’ [had been told she would ever be part of] this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them,” Finney told theBBC. “This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself, Russell has not only made my year, it’s made my life.”She added how much she’s looking forward to sharing this new Rose with audiences. “I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms.
