Joe Lycett has asked to have his nomination at the British LGBT Awards withdrawn. The comedian, 34, joins the likes of Cheddar Gorgeous, Shon Faye and Josh Rivers in withdrawing from the awards show, which spotlights those bettering the needs of LGBTQ+ people and takes place on Friday, June 23.
The British LGBT Awards has drawn criticism from climate campaigners over its sponsorship deals with BP and Shell. Climate campaigners have said they will protest outside the ceremony.
According to the Guardian, they’ve also branded the awards show ‘an exercise in corporate pinkwashing for oil and gas companies’.
Activists from climate groups Fossil Free and Tipping Point UK allegedly started contacting nominees highlighting the ceremony’s links to fossil fuel companies.
