Dundee United players for not lying down and having their “belly tickled” by Celtic. The Tannadice gaffer praised the work rate of his young side after they ran the champions close.
United were seven minutes away from picking up a priceless point before Hoops striker Albian Ajeti struck the winning goal. Mellon’s team went toe to toe with Celtic and the manager was pleased with their display, even in defeat.
He said: “We worked our socks off. When I came in we wanted to try and move the club forward. “We were up against the Scottish champions but knew we’d take part in the game – not sit back like a lot of Scottish teams do and have their bellies tickled by Celtic. “We were going to have a right good go and everyone who watched on telly.
