Sam Smith criticises BRIT awards for non-binary exclusion

Non-binary singer, Sam Smith, has criticised the BRIT awards which pushed back plans to eliminate gendered categories, with other music awards such as the Grammys having already done so.

Smith, who has already won three BRIT awards prior to coming out as non-binary, posted a statement on Instagram expressing disappointment that the awards would continue to use gendered categories for this years ceremony.They said: “Music for me has always been about unification not division.

I look forward to a time where awards shows can be reflective of the society we live in. Let’s celebrate everybody regardless of gender, race, age, ability, sexuality and class.” A spokesperson for the BRITs told Music News in a press statement that the award organisers.
