The recognition is significant, as the gay-centered comedy had been snubbed by the ceremony in past years.In the world of film, Ryan Murphy's The Prom was nominated for Best Picture – Musical/Comedy — although James Corden, whose performance was panned as "gayface" by many critics, was oddly the only actor nominated from the queer musical production.But there was still much to celebrate in TV inclusion.

In Best TV Series – Drama, Netflix's Ratched is up against HBO’s Lovecraft Country. Happily, both of Ratched's out stars, Sarah Paulson and Cynthia Nixon, received nominations as well for their queer roles.
