Blumhouse has released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming conversion therapy horror They/Them. Pronounced “They Slash Them,” the slasher stars Kevin Bacon as Owen Whistler, the director of a conversion therapy camp who is joined by several queer and trans individuals for a week of programming to “help them find a new sense of freedom”. “As the camp’s methods become increasingly more psychologically unsettling, the campers must work together to protect themselves,” the official synopsis states. “When a mysterious killer starts claiming victims, things get even more dangerous.” They/Them marks the directorial debut of three-time Oscar nominated screenwriter John Logan.

In a statement, he said the film has been “germinating within me my whole life”. “I’ve loved horror movies for as long as I can remember, I think because monsters represent ‘the other’ and as a gay kid I felt a powerful sense of kinship with those characters who were different, outlawed, or forbidden,” he explained.

The director and writer has always wanted to make a movie that “celebrates queerness, with characters that I never saw when I was growing up. “When people walk away from the movie, I hope they’re going to remember the incredible love that these kids have for each other and how that love needs to be protected and celebrated.” They/Them also stars Anna Chlumsky, Carrie Preston, Theo Germaine, Quei Tann, Austin Crute, Monique Kim, Anna Lore, Cooper Koch, and Darwin del Fabro.

The film exclusively debuts 5 August on Peacock. Watch the first trailer here or below. The post Watch the chilling first trailer for conversion therapy horror They/Them appeared first on GAY TIMES.
