Britain’s only gay soccer star to enter Hall of Fame, two decades after his death

The National Football Museum’s Hall of Fame is to induct Justin Fashanu, the UK’s only openly-gay soccer star, 22 years after his death.

A ceremony tomorrow at the museum in central Manchester will recognize Fashanu who came out in 1990. Thirty years after that, he remains the only openly gay or bisexual male professional footballer.

He died of suicide in 1998. But today, his legacy lives on in the Justin Fashanu Foundation that fights to free football from discrimination and to improve youth
