Madonna‘s Celebration Tour wrapped, an Olympic pole vaulter caught our attention, and Troye Sivan and Charli XCX dominated the summer?Plus, there was a big change to Queer Eye‘s Fab Five, David Corenswet became the new Superman, and bottoms got “mad respect.” Oh, and how could we forget Wicked consuming our every waking thought?Honestly, 2024 gave us a lot to fixate over, and we couldn’t bid the year farewell without one more yap sesh about it. For the last time this year, here are 10 things we were obsessed with in 2024. I spent all year telling anyone who would listen, “I knew Chappell Roan before she was cool.” (Ask Spotify Wrapped, “My Kink is Karma” was my top-played song in 2022.) Still, I could’ve never predicted how much the queer singer’s star would rise, thanks to Coachella, VMA wins, Grammy nominations and a little song called “Good Luck, Babe.”Part of me wishes I could still gatekeep Roan’s unique and unabashedly gay tunes and remarkable debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwestern Princess.

The bigger part of me, however, is excited that I can finally request “Hot to Go” at a gay club. Not only do they know what I’m talking about, but they’ve likely already played it five times.A post shared by Lester Fabian Brathwaite (@lefabrat)The debut book from Lester Fabian Brathwaite (who’s written for outlets like Entertainment Weekly, Out, and Queerty!) is a hopeless romantic’s journey in a world plagued with homophobia and systemic prejudices.Fittingly titled Rage (and available for $26 on Amazon), Lester easily bounces between critiques on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Black cultural trailblazers, and laugh-out-loud anecdotes from the dating world.

Perhaps we should all own the feeling of being “completely over it!”Only a joint slay between tennis, director Luca Guadagnino, actors Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist could inspire a frenzy like this.

Manuel Betancourt There is no shortage of gonzo moments in Gala del Sol’s “Rains Over Babel.” A playful riff on Dante’s “Inferno,” the film is set in a fantastical retrofuturist vision of Cali, Colombia. The tropical city, here reimagined as Purgatory through the lens of queer joy, magical realism and a dash of ’90s punk, plays backdrop to an age-old tale where life and death are gambled over games of dice. Drag queens and demons roam neon-lit bars with equal poise.
