Doctor Who’s Easter Special To Continue Its Queer Romance

Doctor Who have been shipping the Time Lord (Jodie Whittaker) and her companion Yaz (Mandip Gill) from the very start, and were thrilled when it seemed to finally become a reality in the New Year special “Eve of the Daleks”.

In the holiday special, Dan, The Doctor’s second companion, pushed the two to open up about their feelings for one another.Now with the Easter special, “Legend of the Sea Devils”, on the horizon, Gill says that isn’t the last we’ve seen of this love story.

Speaking with Radio Times, Gill confirmed that the relationship would be further explored in the new episode. She even described it as the “heart” of the special.“That’s where I think the heart [of the special] is, the understanding, the emotion that [showrunner Chris Chibnall] is so good at writing,” she said. “So I won’t tell you which way it goes, but we obviously have to touch upon that again – it wouldn’t make sense not to.”While the romance may be an integral part of the special, it won’t overshadow the swashbuckling adventure of the episode. “I mean, that’s in the midst of everything else that’s going on,” Gill said. “And you know, the sword fight with the Sea Devils and all that kind of stuff.”Gill also commented on how exciting it was to see the fan’s positive reaction to the love story. “It was massive.
