TEARFUL Phillip Schofield likens coming as a gay to 'jumping out of a plane' as he picks up a British LGBT special recognition award.

In a video which will be played tonight, This Morning host Phillip is overcome with emotion as he receives his first ever solo gong.

The 59-year-old, who is currently abroad on his summer holiday, said: "Wow. This is a biggie. What a proud moment for me personally." Phillip bravely announced he was gay on the This Morning sofa beside friend and co-star Holly Willoughby last year.

While behind the scenes he was supported by his wife of 27 years Stephanie and daughters Molly and Ruby. He continued: "I've never won any award individually.
