Former President Jimmy Carter has entered hospice care

Former President Jimmy Carter has elected to receive hospice at his home in Plains, Ga., according to the announcement by the Carter Center in Atlanta.

The 98-year-old former president, who has been in ill health recently and hospitalized several times, decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family.

The Carter Center said that the former president had elected to decline additional medical intervention and that he has the full support of his family and his medical team.

Carter became the oldest living former U.S. chief executive after the death at 94 of former President George H.W. Bush on Nov.
