Reddit post shared under the handle u/MiserableWait2784, which has since been removed by moderators, one groom appeared happy to exclude his brother from his wedding after discovering that his sibling is gay.
What's made matters even more contentious for those following the post online, though, is their parents' reactions. The groom's brother said in the post that his sexuality has been something of an open secret in their family."I came out at 16 and my parents told me they would always love me, but to not mention it to my older brother," he wrote.
His parents asked him to keep quiet about it as his brother had previously "expressed some awful opinions about gay people."That was how things stayed for over a decade until his brother got in touch to say he was getting married and that he was invited along with a "plus one." The Redditor accidentally responded, "Cool, I'll bring my boyfriend."According to the post, the groom "started yelling insults down the line" and effectively uninvited his sibling from the wedding.
The Redditor "hung up" and moved on with his life, messaging his parents the next day to inform them his brother had "invited me and uninvited me from his wedding pretty much in the same breath."When he later checked his phone, though, he found it was "blowing up" with messages from his parents demanding to know what happened.
