Home Office staff have made 215 bullying complaints since Priti Patel became Home Secretary, we can reveal. Officials levelled the accusations “against other employees, contractors or stakeholders in that time frame”, the ministry disclosed.
Bullying has been under the spotlight since Ms Patel was found to have broken the Ministerial Code by shouting and swearing at officials.
However, she was allowed to keep her job by Boris Johnson. Shadow Home Secretary Nick Thomas-Symonds wrote to the Home Office asking how many cases related to bullying in the department had been opened by the Home Office since July 2019 – when Ms Patel took up her Cabinet post.
