House of the Dragon star Emma D’Arcy has said they enjoy playing female characters, and are “really good at it”. D’Arcy stars in the Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon.
In an exclusive interview with The Independent, the star opened up about how they feel about playing women characters as a non-binary actor.
The series is halfway through its ten-episode run, with D’Arcy making their debut in the latter half. They play the adult version of Rhaenyra Targaryen, the dragonrider daughter of King Viserys.
Milly Alcock played the younger version of the princess. When asked if they had any reservations about playing a female character due to concerns of being misgendered, the 30-year-old stated that they “really like playing women and I’m really good at it.” “My worst-case scenario is that suddenly people tell me what I can and can’t play,” they added. “I have all the tools necessary to play women.
