Following the sentencing of 26-year-old Khairi Saadallah, who was responsible for killing three gay men in Reading last year, Paul Britt, the chair of Reading Pride, urged prime minister Boris Johnson to take measures to ensure such events do not occur again.
On June 20 2020, Saadallah murdered James Furlong, a 36-year-old history teacher, David Wails, a 49-year-old scientist, and Joseph Ritchie-Bennett, a 39-year-old pharmaceutical worker, in the city’s Forbury Gardens.
