The Queensland Human Rights Commission (QHRC) has recommended an overhaul of the state’s three-decade old anti-discrimination laws to protect vulnerable groups, including LGBTQI students and employees in religious schools. The recommendations have come months after Brisbane’s Citipointe Christian College issued anti-LGBTQI student enrolment and staff employee contracts. A hit-and-run collision in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood killed three people and injured another Sunday morning. The crash was captured on video by a dashboard camera. At 5 a.m., four men were struck by a sedan near the longtime Black gay nightclub Jeffery Pub, according to the Chicago Police Department, Chicago’s Fox station, WFLD reports.Three men were pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center; a fourth was seriously injured and remains hospitalized.According to an eyewitness, a car flew down the road just as she talked to another individual after leaving the Jeffery Pub nearby, WMAQ, Chicago’s NBC affiliate, reports.“I was standing outside the bar talking to one of the victims,” she told the station.

A group of concerned citizens in Texas have taken their community's safety into their own hands by protesting outside a homophobic church that moved into their town.The Stedfast Baptist Church has a history of making threatening yet Constitutionally-protected statements that advocate violence against the LGBTQ+ community. But residents of Watauga, the church’s latest home after being evicted out of other towns, are taking a stand by protesting every time the church holds a service.“We’re normal people,” Mandi Skinner, with partner Lynette Sharp, tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in a video interview.

As a result of the negative media attention the case has received, a federal judge granted a motion to change the name of a controversial lawsuit in Texas that threatens the availability of life-saving HIV prevention drugs.The plaintiffs’ attorney, Jonathan Mitchell, claims media coverage of the case led to harassment of the first-named plaintiff, which necessitated a change in the name. Attorneys representing the federal government did not object.On Thursday, judge Reed O’Connor ruled that the case would be changed from Kelley v.

A man in Texas is offering to help at-risk LGBTQ+ homeowners flee the Lone Star state.Flee Texas is the brainchild of gay Dallas realtor Bob McCranie, who runs Texas Pride Realty. He set up Flee Texas to help other LGBTQ+ homeowners in the state not just sell their homes, but also connect them with LGBTQ+ or affirming realtors in other states to help them purchase a new home.“I’ve been in Texas since 1987 and I have seen this state transform into a juggernaut of right-wing conservatism,” McCranie tells The Advocate.In response, he created Flee Texas to help LGBTQ+ Texans who feel threatened by the current political and cultural environment find a safe space to live outside his state.“As LGBTQIA+ citizens of Texas, many of us feel at risk,” the Flee Texas website reads.
