President Biden’s decision comes after organizations across diverse communities and movements advocated for the recognition of the Equal Rights Amendment.

Our collective efforts underscore the widespread belief that an Equal Rights Amendment must encompass protections for all people regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Congress approved the ERA fifty-two years ago, and thirty-eight states ratified it as the 28th amendment. We have an opportunity to continue building constitutional infrastructure aimed at erasing gender-based disparities and reinforcing societal values that support opportunities for the most marginalized.
