LGBT+ figures honoured at this year's British LGBT Awards. The former Welsh rugby star was awarded the accolade for his work in raising awareness for HIV/AIDS and improving LGBT+ inclusion in sports.Since coming out publicly in 2009, Gareth has been a vocal advocate for LGBT+ sports around the world.
Gareth came out publicly as HIV positive last year and has since gone on to become a vocal activist, pairing up with The Terrence Higgins Trust and ViiV Healthcare to create the TackleHIV campaign.
Gareth was recognised at the Queen's Birthday Honours as well this year for his campaign work and exploits as a rugby player.He was praised by Prince Harry after speaking openly about how his diagnosis with the virus inspired him to go on and educate.
