Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (born 7 October 1952) is a Russian politician and former intelligence officer who has served as President of Russia since 2012, previously holding the position from 1999 until 2008. He was also the Prime Minister of Russia from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2008 to 2012.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has taken the first formal step in restricting marriage to mixed-sex couples in the country’s constitution.
Putin has submitted a draft amendment to the constitution that would define marriage as only between a man and a woman. And the move seems likely to pass.
The draft is not yet available for the public to read. But high-ranking members of the Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, have presented it to journalists.
