Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (born 7 October 1952) is a Russian politician and former intelligence officer who has served as President of Russia since 2012, previously holding the position from 1999 until 2008. He was also the Prime Minister of Russia from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2008 to 2012.
Russian lawmakers have introduced a proposal that would significantly increase fines for individuals that violate the country’s ‘gay propaganda’ law.
Back in 2013, Vladimir Putin signed the archaic legislation into law – which bans the promotion of “non-traditional” sexual orientations to minors.
Since its introduction, the law has been used to censor media with LGBTQ+ themes, cancel Pride marches and increase hostility towards the country’s LGBTQ+ community.
Now, country officials are trying to tighten the already restrictive legislation by doubling the outlandish fine for those who violate the law.
