After another intense week, Coronation Street came to a close on Friday evening (12 April). Fans of the soap were left fearing for fan favourite Maria Connor as her anxiety surrounding her son intensified following school bully Mason’s successful conviction.
As regular viewers will know, Maria’s teenage son Liam has been cruelly bullied for months, with the youngster even feeling so badly overwhelmed by the situation that he had considered taking his own life.
As soon as Maria realised the extent of the bullying, she immediately stepped in to try and protect him, with her desire to keep him safe soon bordering on a dangerous obsession after she installed cameras in the home to keep an eye on him and found her own work as a hairdresser struggling as she constantly felt the need to check he was safe.
In Friday’s visit to Weatherfield, things intensified further, when Liam expressed his desire to return to school and normality, as he wanted to put the court case behind him, yet despite his enthusiasm to return to education, Maria was adamant that he would only return when she felt he was ready and not before.
