Former Florida state lawmaker Joseph Harding, who wrote the state’s notorious “don’t say gay” bill, pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud, money laundering and making false statements.

He will be sentenced in July and faces 35 years in prison. The bill he sponsored reads, “Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.” The law forbids any discussion of sexuality and gender in school through third grade.

That presumably includes mentioning a child’s parents, but presumably only if they’re a same-sex couple. Versions of the “don’t say gay” bill are in committee in the current session of the Texas Legislature.

The money Harding stole was COVID-19 relief funds from the federal government. — David Taffet The post “Don’t Say Gay” author pleads guilty to federal charges appeared first on Dallas Voice. “Don’t Say Gay” author pleads guilty to federal charges was first posted on March 22, 2023 at 3:48 pm.©2021 "Dallas Voice".

2020 hospital reports Man Gets Nearly 22 Years in Prison for Shooting Teen in Hate Crime
A Missouri man who lured a teenager into a wooded area and shot him eight times because of his sexual orientation, causing serious and lingering injuries, was sentenced on Thursday to nearly 22 years in prison, the Justice Department said. The man, Malachi Robinson, 25, of Kansas City, Mo., pleaded guilty last summer to a federal hate crime, admitting that he had tried to murder the then-16-year-old victim, identified in court records only as M.S., who spent two weeks in a hospital, underwent multiple surgeries and still has bullets inside of him, according to prosecutors.
