Joel Kim Booster speaks out following Billy Eichner backlash

Fire Island’s Joel Kim Booster issued a lengthy Twitter statement where he addressed remarks made by Billy Eichner. Booster wrote and starred in feature Fire Island, a comedy which followed a group of queer friends on a holiday which takes an unexpected turn and pushed their friendship to the limit.

The film went straight to streaming on Disney+ and Hulu. His statement is in response to comments made by fellow comedian Billy Eichner in a recent interview with Variety.

Eichner’s upcoming release, Bros, is slated to be the first LGBTQ+ romantic comedy film to receive a theatrical release. He stated: “this is not an indie movie.

This is not some streaming thing, which feels disposable, or which is like one of a million Netflix shows. I need to appreciate that ‘This is a historic moment, and somehow, you’re at the center of it.
