A post shared by Hulu (@hulu)Don’t believe everything you’ve heard about Mid-Century Modern, the highly anticipated gay sitcom coming to Hulu.

Though it’s indeed a nod to the 1980s classic The Golden Girls –in this case, three best friends and a mom decide to spend their golden years together in Palm Springs –Nathan Lane (as businessman Bunny Schneiderman) isn’t necessarily playing the Dorothy Zbrornak character.

Another Nathan –Nathan Lee Graham– tells me that his character, Arthur, is as Dorothy as it gets! (The official description of Arthur is “a dignified, elegant fashion industry veteran who believes life will never quite match the grace and panache that would exist if only he were in charge”.)Furthermore, the show –produced by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan (Will & Grace) and directed by James Burrows (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Taxi) – sprinkles bits all of all the Golden Girls into each character.

Well, that doesn’t really help my superficial bent on directly paralleling both shows. Like, is Matt Bomer, as outed ex-Mormon Jerry Frank, really the Rose Nylund?
