I was 42-years-old.27 years later – with the Human Rights Act on my side – I fought and won against the Ministry of Defence to finally secure justice.

Now, the Government wants to rip up the very same Human Rights Act that enabled me to clear my name, and we should all be worried about these plans.As blessed as I felt to have found a home in the Navy, there was one thing I always had to keep hidden.

In 1976 when I joined up, being gay or, like me, bisexual, was strictly forbidden.From my very first days of training, it was made clear that I could not be open about who I was.
