The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards was filled with an array of LGBTQ+ winners. For this year’s festivities, the longrunning award show stepped away from its usual live ceremony and took on a two-hour clip base format instead.
The decision stemmed from the ongoing WGA strike and its host Drew Barrymore postponing her appearance in solidarity with the picketing writers.
While the MTV Movie & TV Awards had a different look this year, it was full of LGBTQ+ moments and winners. The all-winners season of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars took home the coveted award for best competition series.
While accepting their trophy, Jinkx Monsoon, Monét X Change, Trinity the Tuck, and Jaida Essence Hall slammed the growing number of anti-drag bills being introduced across the US. “At this time, it’s so important to hear queer and trans stories from queer and trans people, to meet the artists behind the artistry and see the human beings there, so we can have empathy for one another and halt these blatantly bigoted anti-queer, anti-trans legislations,” Jinkx said.
