Bowen Yang reveals what he splurged on with his first ‘SNL’ paycheck
Saturday Night Live stars have been talking about the money they get from the show. In particular, New York magazine, asked if they could remember their biggest financial indulgence after receiving their first SNL payment.
Yang said he recalled going “to Saks across the street buying a pair of Gucci shoes. The kind that everyone got, and the kind that I wouldn’t feel super cool wearing out now.”Yang made history as the first regular Asian cast member when he joined the show in 2019.

Julia Louis Dreyfus gave a similar answer, saying she splurged on a pair for $75, normally “out of my budget.” Pete Davidson dismissed notions he received enough for significant indulgences. “Do you guys know what they pay us?” Davidson replied. “It’s like three grand an episode, so I think I got dinner.”Jason Sudeikis said that for his first year as a writer for the show, he was able to comfortably pay his New York City rent. “I mean you don’t really make enough money to make big purchases,” he said. “So, I think New York rent was probably the biggest purchase I made after writing on SNL the first year.”Cheri Oteri said she got a couch, adding, “I have gotten it reupholstered three or four times.
