Calling all horror fans! Shudder has released the first trailer for its new limited series, Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror, just in time for spooky season.
Premiering 30 September, the four-part docu-series is set to explore the intricate relationship between the LGBTQ+ community and the popular horror genre. “‘Queer for Fear'” re-examines genre stories through a queer lens, seeing them not as violent, murderous narratives, but as tales of survival that resonate thematically with queer audiences everywhere,” reads the official synopsis.
The series is set to include commentary from an array of LGBTQ+ industry professionals, including Emily St James, Lea Delaria, Kevin Williamson, Karyn Kusama, Harmony Colangelo, Justin Simien and more.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Bryan Fuller gave further insight into the creation of the project. “[We’re taking] a broad definition of queer horror which includes Hitchock films and women-in-prison films,” he explained. “In certain interpretations, a movie like Blade Runner can be seen through the lens of queer horror as a very specific story about marginalised people who want more rights and more life. “So there’s a wide variety of interpretations of queer horror and also of queerness.
