The Advocate Among Those Nominated for 2022 GLAAD Media Awards

The Advocate was nominated for Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage and an article from its sister publication Out received a nomination for “The Hearts of Venezuela” by Taylor Hirschberg.The Advocate won in the category in 2020.The GLAAD Media Awards, established in 1990, “honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues.” In addition to print and digital media, GLAAD honors film and television productions that excel at this purpose.This years’ nominees were published, released, or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2021, according to a press release.“Media can create positive change and this year’s nominees represent powerful projects, stories, and creators that positively shifted culture and enlightened audiences with new and impactful LGBTQ stories,” GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said. “There are more nominees this year than ever before, highlighting a growing landscape of LGBTQ visbility, and serving as a reminder to the critical role that film, television, music, journalism, and other forms of media can play in growing LGBTQ acceptance in the face of ongoing attacks against our community.”Of the nominees, 63 came from streaming services, 39 from cable, and 17 from broadcast networks, highlighting the impressive queer stories that have found a home in streaming.HBO/HBO Max had the most nominations with 19, followed by Netflix with 17.

Hulu had 7 nominations. ABC, MSNBC, and Peacock had 4 nominations each. Univision and Telemundo each had two nominations in.
