After graduating from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, he has designed costumes for Broadway shows like Death Becomes Her and The Color Purple.He has won a Tony Award for his costume design work on Hamilton and a Primetime Emmy Award for his work on The Wiz Live!
He may soon add to his costuming accolades, with predictions that Tazewell’s Wicked designs will land him an Academy Award nomination – and possibly win – in the Best Costume Design category.
As a Black queer man, Tazewell’s success as a costume designer has served as inspiration for Black queer designers and many other queer creatives navigating various areas of the entertainment industry.
