Casey DeSantis, the wife of Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis, doubled down on her husband’s dangerous anti-groomer rhetoric less than a week after his campaign was widely condemned for posting a similar ad smearing the LGBTQ+ community.
The dystopian ad depicts LGBTQ+ people as extreme threats to children and features several out of context clips that attempt to smear the entire community as child predators. “In America, we’ve witnessed a lot and put up with enough,” said Mrs.
DeSantis in the video titled “Mamas for DeSantis,” as images of transgender athletes and children playing with a man in BDSM equipment played (the origin or authenticity of the image is not known and has been used by anti-LGBTQ+ activists for years). “We’ve been told that we must deny truth, back down, and look the other way.” The ad then played a clip of a small group of protesters sarcastically chanting, “We’re coming for your children!” before DeSantis said, “Enough is enough.
When you come after our kids, we fight back, because there’s nothing we won’t do to protect our children.” The ad then features President Joe Biden and out Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre explaining why protecting all children is important, statements that conservatives have attempted to turn into smears. “They’re not yours,” she continued. “We will not allow you to exploit their innocence to advance your agenda.
