Sam Smith and Madonna’s new track Vulgar is a scorching kiss-off to their haters. On the two-minute anthem, which features Middle Eastern and electro influences, Sam seemingly addresses their trolls as they speak-sing, “Got nothing left to prove, you know you’re beautiful when they call you vulgar.” Sam continues to tell listeners that they “do what I wanna, I go when I gotta, I’m sexy, I’m free and I feel vulgar.” After referencing her 80s classic Into the Groove, Madonna tells her cynics to “get down” on their knees before issuing the following warning: “If you fuck with Sam tonight, you’re fucking with me.
Watch what you say or I’ll split your banana.” Towards the end of the track, Madonna unapologetically says: “Go fuck yourself, you heard me bitch.” Honestly, it’s everything we could’ve wanted from a collaboration between two of pop’s most daring artists.
Get it to number one! Now! Vulgar marks Madonna’s second collaboration this month following The Weeknd’s Popular, which also features Playboi Carti.
Released as the second single from The Idol soundtrack, the R&B track was met with praise. It’s also Sam’s first single since the Calvin Harris-assisted I’m Not Here to Make Friends.
