Alice Oseman has shared details on Nick Nelson’s storyline in the forthcoming second season of Heartstopper. In an interview with Radio Times, the creator of the series (and the beloved webcomic slash graphic novel of the same name) teased “more tension and drama” in the new batch of episodes “because we have slowed down the story”. “Everything happens so fast in the graphic novels, but in the show, we want to lengthen the storylines, therefore more obstacles have to cross our characters’ paths,” they revealed. “This season, Nick wants to come out to the world, but faced with his nasty brother, his mostly absent father, and his laddy mates, soon finds that it’s not as easy as he initially thought.” Oseman continued to explain that, due to Charlie’s (Joe Locke) endless support of Nick (Kit Connor), Charlie will ‘neglect’ his mental health.

However, they added: “But no matter the challenges ahead for the Heartstopper gang, we all know that they’ll be okay in the end!” Heartstopper season two premieres 3 August on Netflix.

The synopsis is as follows: “Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends.

With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.” Heartstopper’s sophomore season will see the return of William Gao as Tao, Yasmin Finney as Elle, Corinna Brown as Tara, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy, Tobie Donovan as Isaac Henderson, Jenny Walser as Tori Spring, Sebastian Croft as Ben Hope, Cormac Hyde-Corrin as Harry Greene, Rhea Norwood as Imogen Heaney, Fisayo Akinade as Mr Ajayi, Chetna Pandya as
