Wednesday will reportedly ‘ditch’ love interests for the titular character. Last year, the supernatural comedy-horror series made history as the second most-watched English-language series ever on Netflix and received two Golden Globe nominations, including Best Actress for lead star Jenna Ortega.
After the series was (unsurprisingly) renewed for a sophomore season, Ortega expressed her dissatisfaction over her character’s love triangle with coffee shop barista Tyler (Hunter Doohan) and Nevermore Academy student Xavier (Percy Hynes White). “I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down more on a set in a way that I had to on Wednesday,” she said on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. “Everything that Wednesday does, everything I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all.
Her being in a love triangle? It made no sense.” Ortega’s concerns over her character have seemingly been heard, as she’s confirmed that Wednesday will not become romantically entangled in season two.
In a conversation with Elle Fanning for Variety, she revealed: “It’s still coming together, but we’ve decided we want to lean into the horror more.
