From 1973 to 2023: National LGBTQ Task Force Celebrates 50 Years of Advocacy, Activism, and Organizing for the LGBTQ+ Community The National LGBTQ Task Force—the country’s oldest LGBTQ+ advocacy group—celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023, honoring 50 years of advancing freedom, justice, and equity for LGBTQ+ people. This milestone year will recognize and celebrate the National LGBTQ Task Force’s rich history of driving progress within the LGBTQ+ community, from its early days lobbying the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality as a mental illness and advocating for AIDS funding to longstanding campaigns to Queer the Census, Queer the Vote, work for trans rights, fight for reproductive justice and bring an intersectional approach to the LGBTQ+ movement.
One way we are celebrating and honoring our past is by launching a limited podcast series—Movement Moments: The National LGBTQ Task Force at 50.
Movement Moments: The National LGBTQ Task Force at 50 The 50th-anniversary podcast series embodies the spirit of the National LGBTQ Task Force—an organization that consistently pushed the LGBTQ+ movement forward and embraced intersectionality before it became mainstream.
This podcast series is a chance for the National LGBTQ Task Force to provide a platform to activists, advocates, and leaders from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and issue spaces to illustrate the National LGBTQ Task Force’s vision to redefine what it means to be an LGBTQ+ organization.
