Donald Trump or his campaign look good.As you’ve likely heard by now, Hinchcliffe ignited a firestorm after he appeared at Trump’s hate rally at Madison Square Garden last weekend during which he made a bigoted barb about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of garbage” that has proven to be this election’s October surprise.A huge backlash ensued, with criticism coming from Democrats and Republicans alike.
When asked by multiple records about it, the ex-president feigned ignorance, saying he’s never met Hinchcliffe, has no idea who the guy is, had never even heard of him before last Sunday, couldn’t pick him out in a line up, doesn’t care to know him, doesn’t like him, doesn’t dislike him though, blah, blah, blah.Stay woke with our briefing while staying informed on all things LGBTQ+ entertainment, life, and more!Meanwhile, his campaign issued a rare statement distancing itself from Hinchcliffe, saying it didn’t know what he was going to say in advance (despite asking him to edit out a joke calling Kamala Harris the c-word) and that his racist remark “does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”But in an interview with the Dallas Morning News, Austin-based comic Peng Dang, who knows Hinchcliff personally, said racism have always been a part of his act.
Dang, who was born in China, recalled performing alongside Hinchcliffe at a comedy club just a few years ago, in 2021, during which the MAGA comic used a racist slur aganst him then and did an impression of an Asian accent.“I gave him a warm welcome,” Dang recalled. “I called him ‘the one and only.’ I was being very professional.”Hinchcliffe’s response?
We’ll let you watch it for yourselves…Last week in Austin, I got to bring up Tony Hinchcliffe. This is what he said. Happy Asian (AAPI) Heritage Month!
